Labels:text | screenshot | coin OCR: Coin History [1870] The Dominion of Canada did not issue any of its own coinage until 1870. It inherited a large supply of one-cent coins from the Province of Canada and issued them until the supply ran out in 1876, when it issued its own cent very similar to the older piece, both in size and design. Beginning in 1870, the Dominion issued coins in the denominations of 5-cents, 10-cents, 25-cents and 50-cents. The Fifty-cent piece, 1870-1901. reverse bore a garland of maple leaves and the obverse a portrait of Queen Victoria has shown on this 50-cent piece.
